TT to ST conversion checklist and questions for EJ208 BE5B

Recommended Posts

Basically i am after a complete list for every single little thing that is needed for the conversion going right down to bolts and gaskets.

I have read through the single conversion 3.0 thread on dirtyolbc and about 20 half finished threads scattered all across the world wide web but after reading in some places that i need a v5/6 manifold and then reading through Rossubs posts i can use the existing one.

The following is a list of parts that i know i need and what i already have.

- Also if you have any of these to sell PM me

GOT - EJ207 STi Long block

GOT - Intake pipe

GOT - Gaskets

GOT - FMIC

GOT - TD06

GOT - Up pipe

GOT - Down pipe

GOT - EQ Headers

GOT - Zorst

GOT - Oil feed lines

GOT - Waste gate

DO I NEED - Up pipe bracket

DO I NEED - Heater core pipes and hoses (only if im going TMIC right?)

DO I NEED - ST oil return pipe. Apparently TT fouls on the up pipe

DO I NEED - VF28 Turbo bracket

I work over in Aus so instead of being home and finding out everything as i go i want to try and organize as much as i can before i fly home as i normally only go home for a week then if i dont have something ill have to wait for the next trip home.

Obviously im a complete noob so any help is appreciated. Feel free to add to the list

I will be updating this main post when my questions are answered and when i gather new parts etc

You sill need the single scroll exhaust gaskets from the first post in Evowrx's thread:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?42058-Single-scroll-gasket-genuine-part-numbers

If using an OEM single turbo downpipe you will need the matching gearbox cross member.

You will need a matching up pipe/turbo bracket, the TT ones don't fit. Shown on post #27 in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?43004-Rosssub-s-Single-Turbo-Conversion/page3

ReubenH covers blocking off the oil/coolant ports on the left bank head on post #3 in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?64-The-Single-Turbo-Conversion-Thread-2-0

Stick with your original coils (COP), will just need to wire the ECU for wasted spark. Wiring mods covered by Gazzy2000 in here:

Also post #50 in here:

You don't need an IACV pipe, the version 5/6 and BE/BH don't have one.

Correct on the heater pipes, only really needed if going TMIC. Pics/info on post #37 and #40 in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?43004-Rosssub-s-Single-Turbo-Conversion/page3

If using the OEM BOV you will need a pipe to recirc it back to the intake. I made one up on post 31 in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?43004-Rosssub-s-Single-Turbo-Conversion/page3

Also shown in post #48:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?43004-Rosssub-s-Single-Turbo-Conversion/page5

If you scrap the TT head breather hard lines on top of the manifold you'll need to run new breather (PCV) pipes. Covered on post 36 in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?43004-Rosssub-s-Single-Turbo-Conversion/page3

You already have a boost solenoid (ECV duty solenoid) and pressure source switching solenoid inside your BBOD, just need a few pins changed at the ECU. Changing to a V5/6 boost solenoid/MAP setup would mean rewiring the loom plug at the BBOD.

I changed the right bank turbo coolant return pipe on mine as the original was hitting the up pipe, But that was with TS headers. Covered on post #18 in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?43004-Rosssub-s-Single-Turbo-Conversion/page2

Your current injectors are perfect for the version 5/6 WRX ECU.

Im not sure what brands the up pipe and downpipe are as i still havent actually seen them

But going off this pic and matching them with evowrx's thread im guessing i will need

44022AA150 - Turbo inlet gasket.

44022AA180 - Turbo outlet gasket.

44022AA170 - Manifold to uppipe gasket (maybe another for downpipe to zorst)

And a costom one for up pipe to wastegate T pipe (hopefully theirs one already their in good condition)

aswell as the two manifold gaskets rossub mentioned

By looking at the downpipe in the pic are you are to tell if i will need the matching cross memeber?

As this setup has the waste gate T pipe will i have to go for a custom turbo bracket?

Ignore the TD06. Ill be swapping it out for a VF28/29

No worries man, happy to help. Because you'll be making up the rear section of the downpipe you could keep the TT crossmember. Just means that any after market or OEM fitting DP wont go on later down the track.

khanguskhan']What happens if I'm converting but I've sourced a V7 JDM STI TK ecu?

[quote name='khanguskhan said:

Don't want to make a whole new post, been advised to come here for B4 info, I've got a modified single turbo B4, mechanic told me to source an 01 STI ecu and he'll be able to work it up on my car. I'd paid for a V7 AH190 which I think is JDM 01 STI. Will this be fine? because searching through lot of the projects on this forum I see that everyone is using V5/6??

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome.

What model B4 have you got? (BE5A/BE5B/BE5C/BE5D/BE5E - Rev A/B/C/D/E).

As far as im aware the A7/A8 (V5/6 standard WRX) ECU is used because Rev A-C B4s compression rato is 8.5:1 and that matches my EJ208 where as the STi ECU runs 9.0:1 compression ratio. So if your running a REV D, They run a 9.0.1 ratio and it matches the STi ECU so it will be fine?? Rossubs the man with the correct answer

Hey Rosssub! in what way's can I check LOL. The block has since changed to a 2.5, head has also been machined, so my CR is all whack. It's living off 1 turbo. The exhaust is only half the size because my mechanic welded up the inside for roadworthy check. I've literally been driving it to 3000rpm. The car itself is a 2003 that is MY02. Originally I had a Motec m800 WRX7 and it worked perfectly, was going to get that tuned but I didn't have enough money to keep such a good ECU for a stock car/tune.

Look at the build tag, it will say on it "Applied model BE5 A/B/C/D" (Or E if you're in Aussie and have an AUDM model - almost identical to the import rev D for all intents)

I am picking it is Rev D/E, which has the later model air flow meter same as V7 onwards and the same plugs etc in the loom.

Yes the V7 ECU is what you need if this is the case. The earlier ECU is for converting the Rev ABC models only.

I'm lead to believe you can just flash a WRX ROM onto the Rev D/E legacy ECU but it might be simpler for the small cost involved to just use the WRX one as you are

Which model exactly you get hold of won't matter since you need a custom tune on it regardless, obviously

Yep it's going to be abit of work, but hopefully everything will be alright. Contacted a friend that will do the ECU switch up, expecting maybe up to 10 pins to be moved around?

What I've gathered so far that might be different.

Ignition switch (to A6 on JDM)

A/C switch (to A2 on JDM)

Check connector (to A14 on JDM)

Fuel pump relay (to A5 on JDM)

Fuel pump controller (to D15 on JDM)

Followed by immobiliser light disabling, if anyone knows of anything else I may have missed please do tell. Will definitely document it for someone else's future reference.

Correct.

Boost solenoid in the centre. Side port (15) going to the turbo/WG t-piece. Top port (5) bleeding back to the intake.

Map sensor at the top.

Pressure change solenoid at the bottom, plumed in between manifold pressure and MAP.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
