That guide seems oriented around the Ultinons (6000k version) - I bought the standard 85122 (4300k). Still, will have a better look. Which criteria (from the guide) lead you to believe they're fake?

Several things, just read it. Anyway make your own mind up... I think they 100% fake... but I'm not going to waste time trying to convince you. Not my money.

No problem... it's a difficult situation to be in... would be nice to be told they are genuine... but they just aren't IMO.

If you do return them don't go back to wingers. Find a reputable local parts supplier and get them from there. Subaru prices for some items are just stupidly high compared to the opposition.

Wow that's outrageous!!

I can get them directly from Hella for about $90 odd dollars each. I think retail they are around $190 each.

I couldn't believe how much they were when i was looking into them but didn't come across those ridiculous prices!!

Yea narva and ashdown similar money. He may be buying a tray from ashdown and reboxing.

I know you're probably all sick of this thread now. But the ceramic insulators move up and down on the wire (both bulbs). Is that a bad sign?

If you've touched the glass you'll have to clean them properly, not even sure what with.

Have been very careful to only touch the plastic base of the bulb. NB if you accidentally touch the glass you can clean with isopropyl alcohol I believe.

I've decided to hang on to them. I had a closer look at them (and a guide to that specific model of bulb) and I'm pretty sure they're legit. Even if they're not, the 12 month warranty + cost of generic bulbs makes it a reasonable risk/reward. Installed them today, they're all good - a bit yellow, but suspect they'll burn in and go a bit whiter with time.
