HELP BP5 Gt Spec B

Hey there,

New to this forum. I have a 2003 Gt Spec B legacy. Has been fine until now and just had a service 300ks ago. This morning at the lights it started coughing and spluttering and now has a irregular idol, shakes the whole car. Feels like it might only be running on 3 cylinders. Anyone had this before? Any advice is appreciated.

Dead injector? Check engine light on?

Had similar symptoms when number 4 injector died in my GT-B.

Mine ended up running on 3 cylinders one weekend, if it is only on 3 cylinders you will most definitely know. Long story short the cam timing was a mile out and was preventing the fourth cylinder from running. I have also had an irregular idle, just had the air fuel ratio sensor replaced yesterday as this was the suggested cause of the issue by my mechanic. The replacement fixed the irregularity in the idle, drives like a dream now!

No check engine light,

Will take it in to mechanic tomorrow, hopefully it's nothing too major. Have added some injector cleaner to the fuel to see if that will help. Cheers for getting back so quickly

So turns out 2 cylinders were running rich and the solenoids were wide open.

Cam timing was way out. Cheers for the input people!

That sounds like the VTC solenoids being jammed up due to the filters in them getting clogged in the mechanism.

The cam timing gets stuck at a random value.

Thats exactly what it was, for how small those filters are they are hella expensive.

I has the option of replacing them for $400 each from subaru or just running without, naturally i said run them without

Wtf? Who quoted you that? You just remove them then they can never clog or drop like they did.
