3 week old tyre blow out... What can I do?

Recommended Posts

So 3 weeks ago I replace my 2 rear tyres and today travelling at >50km/h one of them blew out and popped right off the bead. I noticed that there was a tear on the outside wall about 5mm in size starting from the rim travelling outwards.

Could this be..

a) a manufacturing fault

b) an installation error caused the tear and the problem was just waiting to happen?

I refuse to accept I ran over something as the positioning of the tear makes it essentially impossible to have been caused by a foreign object. There is also no sign of any other penetrated areas on the tyre.

Not sure what sort of legal warranty can be held on a tyre but I'm a bit annoyed...

***these are el cheapo tyres (evergreen), they were fitted as my previous ones were completely bald and I plan on buying a set of rims and decent tyres later this year***

Nah, the scuff is from the previous owner. But with the tyre setup on there it's pretty much impossible for me to curb that part of the rim as it sits inside the tyre level. It'd be like curbing the inner most point on a concave 18x9 rim, you just can't do it unless you try really hard. The inner rim is completely stuffed though cause the tyre popped off the bead so it was grinding straight on the seal until I stopped.

Be bloody hard to find another one of those wheels too. Go see them its worth a crack. Just dont go in there asking what theyre going to do just go nuts and demand ****. End of the day you bought a tyre that shouldve lasted longer than that and its unsafe. Imagine if you out in front of a logger and that happened.

KwS']its not just me that sees the triangular piece missing out of the rim directly above the "tear"? Looks to me like you drove over something sharp and narrow that was sticking up.

damage on the rim at the same spot tell different story

my thoughts too, its not "impossible" you don't always get flat's or damage on the front wheels only aye

that's not a puncture to me, I've had very similar result from parking bad against a curb & pinching the tire : resulted in very similar damage to the mag as well

I dont know you location at every single second & you/another driver of the car may parked bad recently [in the last 3 weeks] or have driven over a piece of debris on the road standing it up and pinching the rear tire causing blowout, there's a few possibilities

only commenting on what I can see in the image and my personal experiences

Yeah thats cool. Just from where I stand, I am the only person who drives it and haven't had it driven by any other people including workshops in that time, it happened on the open road and in my ownership I've never once hit a curb so its all bit funky to me hence I wonder if it was torn on installation and not noticed or perhaps a manufacturing defect. Also no sign of debris on/around the tyre, no sign of any on the road and the curb mark you can see in the picture doesn't actually line up with the damage, just looks that way in photo although it is pretty close.

Its all a bit of a mystery!

Blaming it on a puncture yeah. Which I can understand as it is hard to prove, I'm not super annoyed cause the rim was sweet and got away with that, cheap tyres too but it's been a bit of an inconvenience in general.

Put it this way - I'll be fitting a full set of Falkens or re002s before we trek down to flat-nats that's for sure.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
