I don't use ELF anymore... the new motor gets Castrol Edge 10w60.

And it was on special this week... but it wasn't a very good special :(

A common misconception is that the viscosity is the only "spec" that matters. Thats a crock you can have a 15w40 petrol only spec and a diesel only spec. Then you have a 1960s suitable 15w40 and one for 2000-.

Another misconception is that going up a level in viscosity will net you mad engine protection. Also wrong it can end up doing more harm than good. It all depends on app and the composition of the oil. Sure a car that specs 10w30 semi syn sm would benefit from 10w40 semi syn sm in a tortured circumstance but youre far better not being cheap and going to a full syn that meets the same spec.

When the base oils vary greatly as in 10w60 the oil is pumped with additives to help the two bridge the gap which makes for a less stable oil. Then theres the drag of the thicker oil...but you prob shat before you raced to balance that out.

If you want a race oil get a fully syn sm 5 or 10w30 or 5 or 10w40 for pre avcs and 5w30 for newage/avcs.

I really cbf expanding on this or arguing i should just write a sticky and lock it so people who see a bottle that says racing on it and become automatic oil experts dont pipe up.

At the end of the day if you can damage an engine thro running any oil between 5-15w30-60 ill eat my hat. Providing you service as required and everything else is as it should be it wont happen.

Period.

If you want penrite just buy the repco branded equivalent. Same oil just cheaper.

Unrelated but you know big dave ae adam? Was talking subaru and your name came up lol.

I know of him, he hooked me up with bendix pads once, hes not a fan of me any more you could say, though you probably already got that :P

THough I didnt think repco did a full synth of their own brand, I only got the penrite at SCE 30% off sale so was only $50 or so.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
