smokey motor is speedway legacy

Evening team,

Just after some guidance with our Speedway Legacy,

last time we raced it on the last race it lost a bit of power and started pumping white smoke out the exhaust

I assumed it was the turbo(TD04) but I have taken the front of it off and the shaft doesn't have any play in in, could it still be the turbo or is possibly more serious.....

Any thoughts?

TK test or compression check your cylinders I'd say.

White smoke and sweet smell likely h/g as above.

hmmm cock thats not really what i was hoping it was. i have a TD05 spare that im all setup to put in, but turbo doesnt feel sloppy enough be causing the issue.

it was at the end of 2 races that were fairly long each so im picking the engine was quite hot...

Pcasht had similar prob on speedway circuit. Because lots of g and same corner everything was pumping out oil out of Rh breather. We lost 2.5l in 5-10mins

Was very smoky and light grey colour.

did he damage the engine or did it just get smokey? did it clear later on?

Was fine once we topped it up and gave it ****

if the seal has failed could i tell if i take the turbo off?

guessing i need to rip the turbo off and inspect, and a compression test will point me towards what may have failed

If you take the downpipe off you can tell. There will be loads of oil in the back of the turbine housing/downpipe if the seal has failed.

There's a whole lot of misconceptions about turbo oil seals though, by the time the "seal" actually fails the shaft is usually completely toast.

Im so glad someone else understands turbo seals.
