V7 STi control arms

Just been poking around underneath the v7 wagon I bought and noticed it doesn\'t have alloy control arms, instead it has the steel type. Did the STi wagons get the alloy ones? I know they missed out on brembo\'s etc.

Or maybe they\'ve been replaced, crash damage or something..

i dont actually know for certain but i would have thought alloy was standard on v7 wagon.

I know for certain the sti wagons up to v6 however were steel unlike the GC counterparts.

Hmmm it\'s strange. I wonder what made STi engineers decide to mix an match so much?

wut.. no.. the geomtrie\'s that ive compared through GC steel to GC alloy to \'standard\' GD alloy were the same? The spec C ones have a wider and further forward balljoint center giving the change in front geometry Spec C\'s got?

Have you got pics or measurements to otherwise state?

I can get pics for you as my mates gc8 runs v7 sti ones front and rear. Wheels stick out noticeably more. Why do you think the sedan has pumped guards over wagons.

oh i dont argue the track is wider in the sedan - it just is. I found it to be more of a combination of wheel size + the hub design (GD hubs have extra meat in them) as aposed to the front control arm.

The control arms in the rear for GD to appear wider agree.

a genuine GD front arm overlaid with a GC one would be interesting to see.

yer - thats what i described as above Sam, what is not clear is the diff between normal GD and normal GC, if anything.

(as \'Spec C\' GD is different shape to GD)

Standard GD is plenty wider than the GC alloy arms (my now silly amounts of front camber to get the tyres to fit will attest to that), Id say 10mm at least, the spec C are wider again and a different shape (sorta) to give more caster also.

GC alloy ones are the same as the steel ones tho, for geometry that is.
