  1. After watching this video, my next car might be electric ..... I believe the Rimac has an electric motor mounted in each wheel, so four motors in all. [video=youtube_share;eT7KKxoAvvk]
  2. On my 2002 Forester the keyless remote became intermittent in its operation and then stopped working completely. I got a new battery put in the key fob and this made no difference; remote still not working. Faced with the thought of spending mega dollars to replace the key / system I did a long search of the internet and eventually found this: "Replace the old battery with a new battery- Outback, Legacy and Tribeca CR1620 battery, Forester and Impreza CR2025 battery- or equivalent. Negative side up. After the battery is replaced, the transmitter must be synchronized with the system’s control unit. Press either the Lock or Unlock remote button 6 times to synchronize the unit" So, in desperation, rather than expectation of success I pointed the remote at the car, pressed the 'lock' button six times, waited a couple of seconds and then pressed the 'open' button. It worked! Made my day
  3. - add to that: the STI version has a TD04L turbo instead of a TD04, a different suspension configuration and a momo steering wheel.
  4. - the STI Forester auto that I bought last year has a TD04L turbo, whereas I understand the standard turbo Forester is a TD04. I also read somewhere that there is a different suspension set-up from the standard model. And I would agree that the 0-60 time is probably in the low 6's; it also pulls well in the 80kph+ overtaking speeds. http://www.ehow.com/info_7853743_turbo-specifications-ihi-td04l.html
  5. .... this story from today's Dominion Post shows everything that some people think is wrong with Subarus. From twitter feeds I think the accident happened about 6pm last night in clear, dry weather. http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/hutt-valley/67495562/Girls-injured-when-car-crashes-into-shop My thoughts are with the poor young girls
  6. cheers, Jared - have a good one, one and all!
  7. Hi there, I went for the remove-able tow bar to save my shins and also an automatic cut-out for the electrics, so any wiring issues with a hire trailer wouldn't short circuit the car. Prices paid; towbar - $330 remove-able tongue and electrics - $60 Electrics short protector - $95 - plus GST. The Forester is a 2002 STI automatic (SF5?). I've attached a loaded trailer several times and the vehicle seems to cope okay under load, but I definitely don't indulge in any harsh acceleration in order to avoid strain on the auto gearbox. Hope that helps
  8. I had the remove-able towbar fitted a couple of months ago at Towbar Express and the fitter did a very tidy job, including cutting through the skirt. Unfortunately I managed to break off and lose the electrics connector at the weekend, due to some unexpected off-road driving; completely my fault, but Towbar Express replaced and re-fitted the connector free of charge. That's what I call good service.
  9. http://www.odditycentral.com/auto/the-chewbaru-a-subaru-covered-in-over-140-pounds-of-dentures-and-dental-impressions.html - gives the car more bite, perhaps?
  10. yep - that's the guy I used; came out to my place this morning and he's done a tidy job on the car. Towbar next and I've booked into Towbar Express. They'll have to cut through the skirt, but say they put on a rubber surround so it looks tidy. Hopefully it'll be a neat job.
  11. - all good, thanks. I've been missing the 'turbo rush', so had to get back to a Subaru I'm just getting an immobiliser fitted to the Forester and once done, I'll be out on the road and hopefully make it to a few cruises, but probably stay off the racetrack.
  12. Hi, I'm looking to fit a towbar to a Forester - anyone have a recommendation for any garage in Wellington area that would do this? thanks
