Could be burning off coolant, you may have a head gasket leak... or it could be as simple as steam from condensation in the muffler. If it smells sweet, it may be a coolant leak

Sorry to re-hash this topic after such a long time, but there\'s a couple of things to check when you have bad reception. One thing is to ensure you have a 14mhz band expander rather than a 10mhz, and another is to see if your car has an aerial amplifier wire as the rear window aerials are usually amplified but if someone puts in an aftermarket head unit then you need to ensure this amplified aerial wire is connected too.
