  1. Currently have no car at all for the first time in ages, just sold my GRB Sti last week Do care for my partners 05 Axela SP23 though(also drive it a lot of the time), and drive a company Ford Ranger as a daily. Looking to get a BL5 Legacy sometime soon though as theyre good bang for buck, and theres not many decent performance cars(Evo/Stis) around that are actually tidy and listed at a decent price.
  2. True I forgot about the OL/CL delay, was actually quite noticeable in my GRB, I zero'd out the delay and its much better. Come to think of it there was bit of learned knock at lower rpms on stock map before I tweaked it, which was probably coming from that lean spot. Car has no learned knock correction at all now.
  3. Thanks for the explanation kwi_fozze. What causes the rings to go bad ? I wonder if there is any way this issue can be addressed before it happens ? Such as a shorter service intervals(I change my oil and filter every 3000km anyway). My GRB is at 131k now, hoping it wont have any issues or its already had it happen and been repaired in Japan.
  4. Yea sorry meant dual as in just the intake side, some refer to intake only as dual and the V11 with both intake and exhaust as quad, bit confusing.
  5. Agree. Im pretty sure the V10 JDM (2L twin scroll) is the same engine from the V9 ? Still only dual/intake only AVCS, cable throttle, has the nitrided crank, etc. Basically a facelift V9. Not sure on the details for the NZDM/non JDM 2.5's though. V11 is where the quad/intake and exhaust AVCS, DBW, etc came in.
  6. Oh right, good stuff. I wonder what the cause of bearing failure is ? Seeing as all the EJ207's in the GDB's are fairly well bulletproof. I was under the impression that the GRB engine was another step up.
  7. I always thought that ALL turbo Subarus had pull type clutches, someone correct me if Im wrong though !
  8. I had the same issue in my V11 Sti when I bought it. Bad clutch judder, very irritating. Got new clutch fitted and it improved alot, but was still there. Not smooth at all. I just drove it a bit and after about 1500kms it smoothed itself out so not sure what the issue was perhaps just needed bedding in ? Odd though as every other clutch Ive done was smooth from the get go. In my case mounts werent torn either, I tried another set of mounts anyway but didnt fix it. So perhaps give it a bit of use and see how it goes.
  9. So kwi_fozze have you started the rebuild yet, and if so was there a diagnosis into why its suffered BEB failure ?
  10. Interesting to hear. My GRB is at 131km at the moment, no issues so far. I wonder if it is indeed a factory issue or simple poor maintenance(seeing as the JDMs are all imports with varying k's on the clock, who knows how they were maintained over their lifetime in Japan), and as the V7-10 Sti EJ207s are known for being very reliable and strong, what has changed in the newer 207s ? Only major difference I know if is they run a EJ25 casting for the short block, with thicker liners to bring the capacity down to 2000cc. Otherwise assumed they have the same or similar pistons as the GDBs. Be interesting to see what they find after tear down, keep us posted.
  11. Car jam has a form for buying and selling that you fill in online then print out. Handy to have, I use it all the time when selling, just to cover myself. http://www.carjam.co.nz/vehicle-sales-agreement/
  12. Also be wary of who you go to for the reflash stuff. Some tuners out there really dont know much about the opensource stuff or how capable it is IMO, and will do a half assed tune, and still charge $1k plus. I would only go to someone who has done a lot of reflash tunes and has experience with it, especially with trickier stuff like the speed density tuning and such. Phil from Dynotech/STM is really good, I was going to go back to him as he did a really good job of my Evo 9 and at a sharp price(even with the cost of the 6 hour return trip factored in), but as said they have now taken over STM and so the prices have gone up quite a bit to be in line with STMs pricing(was quoted $1295 for a dyno tune), so not worth the trip anymore. Have heard Dtech in Tauranga are pretty good as well but no first hand experience, Ill probably look into going to them at some stage.
  13. Yep I had all the software and stuff from tuning my Evo 9, and V8 and 9 Stis. Just need to get a wideband so I can tune the fueling properly.
  14. Yes you are right, $400 odd is a rip ! That was locally through Evoscan.com. I ended up buying one from the Tactrix site as you did, was $259NZD last Monday night, arrived on my door on Thursday lunchtime. Stoked with such quick service ! Now to start having a play with it.
  15. Just thought Id mention in relation to this discussion, I went and bought the Xforce system today, just the cat back section on its own, and also the Miltek catless front pipe to suit the twinscroll JDM, from Redline today. They ended up both mating to each other perfect, so that was a win. The only thing is the price is a bit up there, was $1590 for both, but happy with the fitment, perfect right the way through, only issue is the rear o2 bung is further away. So just extended the wires to the sensor and otherwise no hassles. Also both parts came with all bolts and gaskets to complete install. Pretty quiet too when driving normally too, barely audible at 100kmh cruising. One thing I noticed though, is the GRB's sound a bit different to the GDB models when on song. Sound a bit raspier like the twin scroll Leggys do with an exhaust. Anyone else with a V11 noticed this ? The headers look slightly different design to the GDB, similar to the Legacys so that and the dual AVCS heads must give it the different sound I guess.
